Fall Summary
The Fall workout segment ended a couple weeks ago and I am pleased
with our team. Our new players have become acclimated to college
practice intensity and duration and our returners have improved in
many ways. Team scrimmages were successful in several ways:
1. We gained much needed game experience for our younger players
(18 freshman and sophomores). 2. We were able to play several
combinations of position players in multiple
positions to assess their performance and versatility. 3. We were
able to evaluate our new pitchers in game situations to determine
strengths and weaknesses.
In addition and most importantly, we were able to rest a few "key"
arms and keep them healthy after logging many innings last Spring
and Summer. Other than two pitchers (out for this season after
surgery) our entire team should be healthy when February rolls in.
Much thanks to our athletic training staff for the effort and time
needed to rehabilitate several guys and get them back to full
strength for our season.
The culmination of our work was displayed at our annual scout day
October 9th which was well attended in spite of the weather.
Several players performed very well highlighted by senior Chris
Edmondson's hitting display and the pitching efforts of senior Luke
Nellis and freshman Jerome Werniuk.
We currently are in the off-season phase of our preparation which
involves our strength and conditioning activities combined with 2
hours per week of voluntary baseball skill related instruction with
our coaches.
Fund Raising!!!
While the college has made huge strides to increase our operating
budget, we still need to fund raise to help our program become the
very best that we can! This year, we are hopeful to raise the funds
needed to rent off campus facilities during the winter months
($4000), supplement various targeted field protective equipment
items (screen and net replacements $2000), buy a new radar gun
($1000) and purchase new wind weighted tarps for our bullpens
($800).
Our coaches and team will help to do our part by running two
clinics in the winter months (January 24 and February 7).
Information on these will soon be posted on our website along with
summer camp information.
How you can help get involved...In the next couple weeks you will
be receiving a letter from Athletic Director Matt Bassett with some
exciting news about the current projects and key priorities
underway in our athletic department. He will also be asking for you
to consider becoming a member of the Gold Wave for the 2009-2010
year. You can support our baseball program directly by returning
the pledge card from the mailing (Make sure you check Baseball on
the pledge card) or you can simply click
here and make your gift online. Your involvement in
all aspects of our program is vital to our continued success.
In my next blog, I will introduce you to our 2010 recruiting class
which will become official in the middle of November.
Thanks for checking in!

The 2010 baseball schedule is arguably the most challenging in our program's history! Being an independent, we have the unique ability of competing against schools from many different conferences throughout the entire season. Here is the scoop on who we play and when. We hope to represent our school and region well throughout our travels!
We open up in Cary, North Carolina February 19-21 with a
four-game tournament versus Illinois-Chicago and Wright State
at the USA Baseball Complex. Weekend two has us flying to a thre-e
game series at Southern Mississippi. The next trip happens during
our school's 10-day spring recess...we will bus to a weekend series
with Louisville, midweek singles with Xavier and Cincinnati and a
weekend tournament at Evansville (host) with Purdue and Morehead
State. Weekend five has us in West Virginia for a four-game set
with Marshall University and weekend six we have a three-game set
in Virginia with Longwood. Weekends seven and eight we will settle
in on "the heights" for home weekends against Stony Brook
University and a return trip from Longwood University. Weekend nine
will involve a three-game set at Youngstown State. Weekend ten we
will fly to Louisiana-Lafayette for a three game series with
the Ragin' Cajuns. Weekend eleven puts us in the "Sunshine State"
with a three-game set against the Florida State Seminoles. Weekend
twelve we will be on campus and not competing during our final exam
period. Weekend thirteen we will venture to the New York City area
and play a four-game set with Rider University and LIU at Keyspan
Park in Brooklyn.
Midweek games will occur on the road with Bucknell, Cornell,
Canisius, Albany and St Bonaventure and home midweek games with

The
2009/2010 school year is upon us and I wanted to touch base and
update you on staff changes in our program for the upcoming season.
With the graduation of his son Matt, Bob Nandin officially retired at the end of the 2009 season after 13 years on the Heights. We sent Bob off with a nice family picnic and a new set of golf clubs to help improve his game! I'm sure that Bob will remain busy watching his son play pro baseball and his daughter, Morgan, play softball at Syracuse University. We thank him for all that he has done for our players, program and school.
Longtime pitching coach and Le Moyne graduate Peter
Hoy has accepted a promotion within the
athletic department as the Director of Internal Operations.
Pete will be shifting gears to administrative duties overseeing
many key elements within our department including internal and
practice scheduling, facility and game management. We wish
Pete the best of luck in his new position and thank him for the
tremendous job that he did with our players for eleven years!
Replacing longtime quality assistant coaches with professional
playing experience is not an easy task. We are very excited
to welcome two former dolphins to our program with the hiring of
Scott Cassidy (Pitching Coach) and Corey
O'Neill (Graduate Assistant). Scott will assume the
duties of pitching coach as well as recruiting coordinator.
Scott's extensive playing career and highlights can be viewed at
the following link: http://www.lemoynedolphins.com/sports/bsb/2010/NEWS/20090904_bsbCassidyHiring
Corey O'Neill just finished off his first professional
season playing for the Texarkana Gunslingers of the
Continental League with a .329 batting average. The former Le
Moyne 1st sacker will be assisting with all aspects of infield
defense as well as hitting.
Scott Landers will remain on staff for his 8th season
assisting with pitching, hitting, defense and game
preparation.
I would also like to congratulate Dickie Woodridge
'94 on his recent selection into the Gold Wave Hall
of Fame Class of 2009. For information on the induction
ceremony and reception Saturday, September 26th, please contact
315-445-4760 or email: teskeda@lemoyne.edu
In my next update, I will release our 2010 baseball schedule.
Thanks for checking in!
