The fall 2009 edition of thee men's golf team
is now history and our lads came through with a few bruises but
many smiles. We finished the fall campaign with a 38-14 composite
record which places us fourth in our region. (Top 10 get
invites to NCAA in May). Senior Tim Martins (Sr., Cortland)
is ranked 5th individually and earned several
weekly NE -10 recognition awards while Anthony Viskovich (Soph.,
Massena) earned a weekly all-NE-10 award for his 9th
(77-74) place finish at the Northeast Intercollegiate Championship
posted by Post University in Waterbury Ct.
With one victory this fall the St Rose Invitational and no finish
lower than sixth place, we can look to what might have been and be
energized this spring with our run to the NCAA regionals in
May.
Besides Tim and Anthony, we had strong supporting efforts from
Chris Sova (So-Oswego) Andrew Lloyd (Jr., Oswego) Kevin
Jackson(So., Chittenango) and seniors Brian Tischler and Branden
Cristello.
Our spring schedule features our Mike Bello Invitational at En-Joie
(Site of the Dick's Sporting Goods Champions Tour Event) and
our session ending at Springfield (MA) CC hosted by American
International, the region's number one ranked team.
We are excited about our upcoming Spring Schedule, the opportunity
to represent our great gold heritage at LeMoyne, and to get some
well earned tournament wins for our squad.

The signs of spring for golfers in Central New York are quite simple: viewing the Masters, hitting that first ball since last November, and following the Le Moyne men's golf team play in forty degree temperatures with accompanying wind, rain and even an occasional snow.
The 2009 lid lifter for us was at the Peter King Memorial at Long Island National G.C. sponsored by Dowling College. Our 13th-place finish out of 18 teams prompted the coach to tell the troops to simply have a simple goal: improve each day and we will be ready to favorably compete at the NCAA Regionals in West Virginia the first week of May.
Then, 36 degrees and blustery winds greeted us at Bentley College's Lew Flumere Invitational at Stow Acres G.C. near Boston. The young Dolphins places a respectable sixth of 21 teams with junior Brian Tischler our medalist with a fine 78 for an 11th-place finish.
At our own Le Moyne/Mike Bello Invitational at Sunset Ridge,
we continued to improve finishing third out of 13 teams behind
LaVal University's Red and White squads from Quebec. Freshman Chris
Sova fashioned a fine top 10 finish with a great 75 on the second
day in temperatures that never threatened 40 degrees.
So as we head into our last two weeks before the NCAA's, our team has indeed improved and we are warming up...even while temperatures haven't quite been totally spring like.
Senior Biology major Will Schwartz of Avon, Ohio was honored by
the Gold Wave as our only senior golfer on this year's squad.
Will has been a four-year player for us whose highlights
include being an integral part of our NCAA Regional team his
freshman season and helping us win Le Moyne's first Northeast-10
Championship last fall. Good luck, Will, and thank you for
all your efforts these past four years.
Dolphin
Divots: To jump start your golf season, get an
early season tune-up concentrating on three things:
1. Alignment
2. Distance from the ball
3. Swing balance
- Alignment: Most players aim too far to the right and then swing across their body producing weak slices to the right. Aim left and swing to the right will usually "right" your wrongs!
- Distance from the ball: Most people stand too far from their golf ball and then lose their balance falling toward the ball in an effort to reach out during the swing. Let your arms hang loosely from your shoulders in addressing the ball realizing that rarely, if ever, does anyone stand too close to the ball.

October 6, 2008 2008 Northeast 10 Champions! Has a great sound, don't you think!? Team members Tim Martins, Brian Tischler, Will Schwarts, Anthony Viskovich and Medalist/Freshman of the Year, Kevin Jackson (Chittenango), our Dolphins won our first NE 10 Championship after two agonizing runner-up finishes in 2005 & 2006. Even those team members who did not play are responsible for this victory due to their challenge matches each week pushing our top five to perform at a top level each and every week. By virtue of our victory at the NE 10; we have secured a D-II bid to the regionals in May in Delaware and are currently looking to restructure our spring schedule so as to best prepare our team for another successful post season performance. As coach of these student athletes, I would be remiss if I didn't say what an honor it has been already to be around these players who not only represent LeMoyne but the great game of golf also. Dolphin Divots - "From the Lesson Tee with Coach T" Now I don't want to shake up all of your golf world pre-conceptions, but...I will. One of the worst mantras of Amateur golf is "Keep your head down." This is not good advice ~ it should be stated as "keep your eye on the ball", allowing the head to raise up as the ball does after impact. Interestly, a recent finding shows that the "#1" key to all of the worlds longest power hitters is that at impact, they are "weightless," thus coming up, rising up much like a sprinter or a lineman in football. Interesting-yes, keep your head down - NO...thank you. Coach Tesori |
September 2008
Welcome - My name is Joe Tesori and I am the Men's Golf Coach at Le Moyne College.
Our intention is to keep you all updated on our golf program, our current players, and every so often a look back at some of our former Dolphin linksters and a "Where Are they Now?" update.
Our new Look: Four freshmen have given our squad a face lift and a boost of youthful enthusiasm. Chris Sova (Oswego HS), Anthony Viskovich (Massena HS), and Kevin Jackson (Chittenango HS) have all participated in events this fall with Chris Webber (CBA) waiting in the wings for his chance to contribute.
With a fall schedule consisting of mainly D-II competition, we will be looking to defend our 2007 ECAC Championship and aiming for that automatic NCAA bid by winning the NE-10 Championship at the Orchards GC in So. New Hadley, MA.
Sporting our new logo on all our equipment, our young Dolphin Linksters are ready to make a name for themselves early this season. Follow us on the web and feel free to contact me about any item you would like to know about our squad or any tip about the game we can help you with.
Dolphin Divots: Where are they now? Several recent graduates of our team are pursuing their passion in the field of golf. Alan Seamans is the Tournament Director and Junior Golf Chairperson of the CNY-PGA, Neil Reidy is an Assistant Professional at Oak Hill (Rochester, NY) and at the Medalist Club (Stuart), and Dan McCarthy is a member of the Hooters Tour and will be attending the PGA Tour Qualifier later this fall.
Tip of the Month: You need a great base to swing efficiently and no tension in your arms. Get an athletic stance, firmly planting your feet/legs and rid your upper body of tension. The club weighs but 13-15 ounces; it weighs less than a baby dolphin!!! Get a firm/secure grip but maintain the looseness or weightlessness of your arms...heavy feet...loose arms...that's the key! Good luck!
