Le Moyne College softball coach Ed Mahar enters 2008 as the head coach, marking his 15th season with the softball program.

After leading the Dolphins to their second consecutive NCAA Division II Championship appearance and the most NCAA wins in New York state history, Mahar and head coach Ken King were honored as the Division II NFCA/Speedline Coaching Staff of the Year.

A former bullpen catcher for the Syracuse Chiefs, he brings a vast softball and baseball background to the team. His main duty with the team is developing the pitching staff.

Mahar guided the nation's top pitching staff in 2003. The Dolphins shut out 30 of 57 opponents and allowed only 34 earned runs in 57 games. The resulting 0.64 ERA topped the national rankings.

Junior Megan Vecchiano (22-4, 0.53 ERA) finished fourth in the nation for ERA. Senior Marnie Sundberg (25-6, 0.66 ERA) graduated as the program's all-time leader in ERA, shutouts, innings, wins and strikeouts.

A 1979 graduate of Cayuga College, Mahar is a staff member at Hillbrook Detention Center in Syracuse.
