Ken King has served as the head coach of the Le Moyne College
volleyball team for the past 18 seasons. Over that period,
King's teams have posted a 322-244 (.569) mark since he took over
the program in 1991. King led the Dolphins to a school record 25-10
mark in 1995.
In 12 years in the Northeast-10 Conference, King has guided his
teams to an 95-68 (.583) conference record and ten conference
tournament appearances. The Dolphins are 4-14 in NE-10 tournament
action and have advanced to the conference semi-finals on three
occasions.
In 2007, King retired from his post as head softball coach. In 10
seasons at the helm of the softball program, King led the Dolphins
to a 308-136-3 (.671) record. The first coach to lead Le Moyne to
the NCAA tournament for softball, King guided the Dolphins to six
consecutive NCAA Tournament berths and four trips to the NCAA
Championships.
The leader of the 2003 and 2005 Northeast Region Softball Coaching
Staff of the Year and 2001 Northeast-10 Conference Softball Coach
of the Year, King coached the Dolphins in a period of unmatched
success. Le Moyne won 30 or more games for six consecutive seasons,
finished atop the Northeast-10 Conference regular season race four
consecutive seasons and in the top-two six straight times.
A native of Syracuse, King received his Bachelor of Science degree
in physical education at SUNY College at Brockport in 1974. King
also performed graduate work at Brockport, SUNY Oswego and SUNY
Cortland. Before joining the athletic staff at Le Moyne, King
taught physical education in the Syracuse parochial school district
and as a coach guided various teams to seven conference
championships, three sectional and one state championship. King led
the softball program at Liverpool High School from 1981-1989.
A member of the Le Moyne College Gold Wave Hall of Fame, King
was enshrined in the Liverpool High School Athletic Hall of Fame in
2001. King is also a member of the American Volleyball Coaches
Association and is certified in Red Cross First Aid and CPR. King
resides in Cicero with his wife Ida and has two children, Jennifer
(Le Moyne '04) and Bryan (Le Moyne '06).
