FIVE DOLPHINS EARN FALL NORTHEAST-10 ALL-ACADEMIC
HONORS
South Easton, Mass. - Five Le Moyne College student-athletes have
earned Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic honors for the Fall
2008 athletic season, as announced by the conference office on
Friday afternoon. Women's soccer team members Meg Turley
(Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse), Megan O'Shea
(East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) and
Christina Harrison (Jamesville,
N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and cross country athletes
Kelsey Ryan (Warsaw, N.Y./Livonia) and
Jake McAndrew (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) all earned
academic honors for their respective sports.
Turley, a senior who holds a 3.81 grade point average as a biology
major, has earned All-Academic honors for the second consecutive
year. Turley scored one goal as a starter in 14 of 17 games
played.
O'Shea, a junior who carries a 3.73 GPA as a biology major, also
received All-Academic recognition for the second straight year.
O'Shea scored a career-high tying 21 points on seven goals and
seven assists as a starter in 15 of 17 games played. O'Shea
finished the season ranked in the top-8 in the conference in points
(T7), assists (T3) and goals scored (T8). Her seven assists mark
the most in a season by a Dolphin since 1995. She has scored 23
career goals (T6th) and dished out 13 assists (8th) for 59 total
points (7th) to rank in the top-10 in each category in Le Moyne's
career records.
Harrison, a junior psychology major holding a 3.49 GPA, is making
her first appearance on the All-Academic team. Harrison registered
a career-high 28 points on 13 goals and two assists as a starter in
16 of 17 games played. She finished the season ranked in the
top-four in the conference in both points and goals scored. The 13
goals mark the most in a season by a Dolphin since 1995. Harrison,
named to 2008 Northeast-10 Conference First Team and NSCAA/adidas
East Region Second Team for the second time in her career, has
scored 25 career goals (5th) and dished out 10 assists for 60
points (6th) to rank in the top-6 in the program's history.
Ryan, a senior political science and psychology major with a 3.91
GPA, has been recognized with All-Academic honors for the third
consecutive season. Ryan registered four top-10 finishes as a
competitor in all eight meets. She closed out her career with a
10th-place effort at the Northeast-10 Championship and a
ninth-place performance at the NCAA East Regional to earn Second
Team All-Northeast-10 Conference honors and First Team All-Region
accolades.
McAndrew, a junior with a 3.91 GPA as a biology major, has
earned All-Academic recognition for the second straight year.
McAndrew opened the season with a second-place finish at the
Buffalo State Invitational. He followed up that performance by
winning Saint Rose's Golden Knights Joust in a time of 26:28 over
the five-mile course.
To be eligible for selection to the academic
teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the
following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of
the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant
contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on
a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at
his/her current institution. The Northeast-10 All-Academic Teams
are chosen by a vote of the Northeast-10 Sports Information
Directors.
