Student Athlete Advisory Committee Bylaws

Article I: Name

  • The name of this organization shall be the Le Moyne College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

 

Article II: Mission Statement

  • To facilitate and encourage constructive communication between the student-athletes and the Athletic Department; to build a community and sense of openness within the Lemoyne College athletic family involving all intercollegiate athletic teams; to support the community engagement initiative by promoting athletics on campus and in the local community; and to support the college mission state that encourages leadership and service.

 

Article III: Membership

  • Membership is restricted to student-athletes actively participating in a varsity sport.
  • The committee shall consist of two (2) voting representatives from each intercollegiate team selected by their coach. These persons must be in good academic standing and willing to actively participate in SAAC activities.
  • Members from each team should, when possible, be staggered in relation to academic year (i.e. senior and sophomore, or junior and freshman) so as to promote continuous representation and member orientation.
  • Members are to represent the views of their particular teams at committee meetings. This means that the team representatives must talk to their teammates about issues or projects discussed at meetings. The representatives must also inform their teammates of all committee discussions and recommendations.
  • Members must help organize and execute team participation in activities and events sponsored by SAAC.

 

Article IV: Executive Board

Section 1 - Positions

The officers of this committee shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Chair of the Committee of Community Outreach, Chair of the Committee of Campus Outreach, Chair of the Committee of Career Services, and Chair of the Committee of Student Athlete Experience.

Section 2 - Qualifications

      •  Officers shall be elected from the committee members at the end of the preceding year.

  • Officers shall serve a term of one (1) academic year and must be re-elected to serve subsequent terms.
  • Officers shall be expected to attend extra SAAC Executive Board meetings.

Section 3 - Functions

  • President: chairs all committee meetings and acts as the official representative of the committee.
  • Vice President: assists the President and chairs the meeting in the event of the President's absence and is also the liaison to the sports information director for website updates and coordination.
  • Secretary: records the minutes and attendance at all meetings and prepares them for distribution to all representatives and SAAC advisors.
  • Treasurer: will serve to maintain SAAC financial considerations and oversee committee fund-raising initiatives.
  • Committee Chairs: head all committee meetings, and are in charge of organizing programs geared towards their specific area of concern.

 Article V: Meetings

  • The Executive Board of this committee shall meet as needed.
  • All members of SAAC shall meet at least once per month when permitted and more frequently if necessary.
  • Members are required to attend all meetings.
  • Absences due to varsity athletic commitments, class, or academic requirements are permissible.
  • Consistent absences will result in a motion to dismiss the concerned member.

 Article VI: Amendments

  • Amendments to these bylaws shall be made by at least two-thirds of the votes of members present.
