DOLPHINS PREPARE TO FACE ORAL ROBERTS UNIVERSITY IN A THREE
GAME SERIES.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Dolphins (2-2) will
travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a three game series with the Oral
Roberts University Golden Eagles at J.L. Johnson Stadium February
29 through March 2. The Golden Eagles (4-0) have already defeated
Army, UTSA, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Texas Tech. Head Coach Rob
Walton enters his sixth season with the Golden Eagles with a career
record of 173-64. Walton's ball club competes in The Summit League
Conference.
Dolphins head coach, Steve Owens, has announced his weekend
starters for the upcoming three game series in Oklahoma. Eric
Beaulac, Junior RHP, will take the opening game. In his first start
of the season against Longwood University, Beaulac received the no
decision. Beaulac gave up seven hits through 4.1 innings of work,
while allowing three earned runs. Owens named Beaulac the ace of
his staff at the beginning of the year after his impressive
sophomore season where he posted an 8-1 record, and a 2.94 ERA
through 82.2 innings of work. T.J. Sheridan (Sr./LHP) will take the
mound the second game of the three game series. Sheridan defeated
Longwood University last weekend in Virginia. Jeff Tardiff
(Fr./RHP) will close out the three game series. Tardiff gave the
Dolphins six solid innings only allowing two earned runs on six
hits in his first start of his college career. Offensively, Seniors
Stephen Crawford, Corey O’Neill, and Junior Matt Nandin
collected a combine 19 hits in their season opening series against
Longwood University (19-42 .452).
The Golden Eagles finished with a 40-17 overall record in the 2007
season. Walton’s club received six key losses to the draft
and brings in 23 newcomers. RHP’s Chance Chapman, Erik
Crichton, and Jeremy Hefner, (1B) Chad Rothford, (2B) Jake
Kahaulelio , and (OF) Pat Warfle all signed professional
contracts.
Starting RHP Jerry Sullivan (SO.), and starting LHP Michaeal Jarman
(SR.) return to the Golden Eagles. Last season Sullivan finished
5-0, with a 2.04 ERA through 53 innings of work and Jarman posted a
2-4 record with a 5.40 ERA through 40 innings of work.
Offensively the Golden Eagles have five starting position players
returning. Brendan Duffy (SR.) returns to the OF
(Avg.-HR.-RBI/.356-1-29) with senior Kelly Minissale
(Avg.-HR.-RBI/.316-6-43), and senior C/OF Brian Van Kirk
(Avg.-HR.-RBI/.299-9-40). Senior Catcher Dave Genao returns behind
the dish (Avg.-HR.-RBI/.293-2-16), and senior Adam Younger
(Avg.-HR.-RBI/.278-4-39) returns to the infield.
