#16 WITCHITA STATE SHOCKS LE MOYNE IN FINAL INNINGS AND DEALS DOLPHINS 9-8 LOSS

Wichita, KS - The #16 Wichita State Shockers overcame a three run deficit in the final innings to defeat Le Moyne College 9-8 on Tuesday at Eck Field. A two out, game winning single by Cody Lassey scored Ryan Jones in the bottom of the ninth secured the Shocker victory. The loss drops Le Moyne to 2-6 on the season.  With the win, Witchita State snap a three game losing streak and improve to 4-3 on the year.

Le Moyne got on the board with two runs in the top half of the second inning as Stephen Crawford drove in Chris Edmonson and Sean Paino on a two-out single to centerfield. The offensive attack would continue in the top of the third inning as Mike Brown led off with a single to right field. He would move around to score on a sacrifice fly by Chris Haynes to push the Dolphin lead to 3-0.  A double down the leftfield line by Cory O'Neill would continue the inning, but close the books on starter Clint Maune.  Paino would drive in the Dolphins' fourth run of the inning on a groundout to short and O'Neill would score on a wild pitch as the Dolphins pushed their lead to 5-0.

A lead-off triple to centerfield by Wichita State's Tyler Weber would spark a four run inning for the Shockers that used four hits and two costly Dolphin errors.  Wichita State would scratch one more run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Tyler Hill.

Le Moyne would respond with one run in the top half of the fifth inning as Paino drove in Phil St. Amant on a double to right-centerfield.  St. Amant would spark the Dolphin offense in the next inning as he drove in Matt Nandin and Alex Del Valle on a two-out single through the right side that gave the Dolphins an 8-5 advantage.

Just as earlier in the game, once Le Moyne extended a lead, the Shockers would respond. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Wichita State strung together four hits to plate three runs, highlighted by Tyler Hill's two-out, game tying RBI triple off Le Moyne's Al Ondrako.

In the bottom of the ninth, Ryan Jones connected on this third hit of the day, sparking the Shocker offense with a double to left centerfield.  He would move to third on a ground out to relief pitcher Brandon Otto.  Following two walks to load the bases, Cody Lassey singled through the left side with two outs to score the winning run.

Le Moyne was led catcher Phil St. Amant with two hits, two runs and two RBI's on the day.  Sean Paino and Corey O'Neill added two hits each.  Wichita State was led by Jones's three hits and three stolen bases. Four other Shockers added two hits on the day.
