DOLPHINS TAKE FIRST TWO GAMES OF A SET THREE GAME SERIES AGAINST DELAWARE STATE.

DOVER, DE -The Dolphins won both games of a double header against Delaware State on Saturday at Soldier Field.  Junior Matt Nandin led the way offensively for the Dolphins driving in three runs, while hitting 3-5 at the plate.  It was Luke Nellis who picked up the win in relief.  Nandin's 3-5 and Stephen Crawford's 3-4 performances at the plate in the second game led the Dolphins to their 14-9 victory. Brandon Otto picked up the victory in relief. Otto went three innings allowing five hits on four earned runs. The Dolphins improve to 5-10 overall, sending the Hornets to 2-12.

Starting pitcher Eric Beaulac ran into trouble in the fourth inning. The game was scoreless heading into the fourth when Bibb took Beaulac ‘s offering and deposited it over the left field wall. Bibb's blast put the hornets on top 3-0.

The Dolphins quickly fought back tying the game in the top of the fifth 3-3.  It was Mike Brown's two run blast driving in Edmondson that provided the initial spark for the Dolphins.  Sean Paino followed with a solo home run of his own over the right center wall tying the game at 3.

The Hornets jumped all over the Dolphins in the bottom of the fifth pouring on five runs.  Bittner's solo home run and Bibb's three run homer (second of the game) off of Beaulac opened up a 7-3 gash. Coach Owen's quickly brought in Tom McDermott to stop the bleeding . The Hornets would tack on another run, charged to Beaulac, expanding their lead 8-3. Beaulac went 4.2 innings allowing eleven hits on 8 earned runs.  McDermott would face one more batter the following inning before Nellis was brought in.

The Dolphins continued to chip away at the lead. Perez's two RBI double closed the gap 8-5. The Dolphins would explode in the top of the eighth inning putting a five spot on the board. The offensive surge was started by back-to-back doubles by Phil St. Amant and Chris Edmondson.  Nandin's three run double to right center field with two outs in the inning would give the Dolphins a 10-8 lead.

The Dolphins would put up ten runs on twelve hits collectively. Nellis came in and quieted the Hornets to zero runs, only allowing two hits on 3.2 innings of work.

The Second game of the double header saw fourteen Dolphin runs and thirteen Dolphin hits in the 14-9 victory. The game was a scheduled seven inning contest.  It was the third inning that opened the game for the Dolphins. The Dolphins would tack on seven runs off of Langton. Down 2-1, Crawford's single would spark the Dolphins offensive attack. Crawford would quickly steal second putting him into scoring position for Nandin. Nandin would reach with a single advancing Crawford to third base. It was Edmondson who would tie the game at two with his sacrifice flie to left center. The big blow for the Hornets came with two outs in the inning off of Crawford's bat. Crawford would drive a three run triple into the left field gap putting the Dolphins on top  8-5.

It was in the fifth inning when Crawford would drive in his fourth RBI of the game. Nandin and O'Neill would also produce RBI singles of their own. The Dolphins would tack on  three more runs in the sixth and seventh innings extending their lead 14-9. Otto would pick up his first win of the season out of the pen.
