HAYNES HOMERS TWICE, DOLPHINS STAY PERFECT AT NATIONAL
INDEPENDENT TOURNAMENT WITH 14-4 VICTORY OVER NEW JERSEY TECH
EDINBURG, Texas – Chris Haynes socked a pair of solo home
runs and six players finished with multi-hit games as the Le Moyne
College men’s baseball team breezed past New Jersey Tech,
14-4, in the third day of the National Independent Tournament at
Edinburg Stadium. The Dolphins (33-20) picked up their tenth
straight win and their third in three tournament games. The
Highlanders (5-47) dropped their fourth straight contest.
The two round-trippers from Haynes, his sixth and seventh of the
season, were part of a 15-hit Le Moyne attack. His solo shot in the
second tied the game at 2-2 and his second of the game put the
Dolphins ahead for good in the fourth. Le Moyne erupted for six
runs on six hits in the seventh inning, ending the game due to a
10-run lead rule.
Haynes picked up three hits while Steve Crawford, Chris Edmondson,
Robert Perez, Sean Paino and Rich Brown each finished with a pair
of hits. Haynes, Perez and Paino scored three times while Haynes,
Crawford, Brown and Matt Nandin each knocked in a pair of runs.
Corey Nelson settled down after a wild first inning and picked up
his third win of the season with four innings of work. Tom
McDermott was solid in relief, striking out six of the 12 batters
he faced.
In the National Independent Tournament’s final game, Le Moyne
takes on host institution Texas Pan American at 6 p.m. (Central
Time) Sunday.
