BSB: EDMONDSON LEADS LE MOYNE RALLY IN 8-6 WIN AT NEW YORK
TECH
Old Westbury, N.Y. - Junior preseason All-American Chris
Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) went 4-for-5
with a home run and three runs batted in to lead Le Moyne College
to an 8-6 win over New York Tech in non-conference baseball action
on Friday afternoon at Presidents Field.
Le Moyne opened the contest's scoring with a run in the first
inning. Senior shortstop Matt Nandin (North Syracuse,
N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) walked and Edmondson followed
with a single through the right side. Senior catcher Chris
Haynes (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) then singled
to center field to drive in Nandin from third.
The Bears answered back with three runs on three hits in the second
inning. Christian Dienna was hit by a pitch, George Carroll singled
through the left side and Eric Cos walked to load the bases.
Following a line out and a foul out, Ryan Campbell singled to right
center to plate Dienna and Carroll. After Campbell stole second,
Brian Smith singled to right field to drive in Cos.
The Dolphins responded with three runs of their own in the top half
of the third inning. Freshman designated hitter Dan Sisto
(Liverpool, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and Nandin
each singled to left center around a pop out. Edmondson followed
with his fifth home run of the season.
New York Tech regained the lead with its final three runs in the
bottom of the third frame. Denten Neill drew a lead-off walk and
came around to score as Effrey Valdez followed with a double to
center field. Following a Le Moyne pitching change, Valdez advanced
to third on a failed pickoff attempt and crossed home on a single
to left by Dienna. Following a passed ball and a single by Carroll,
Cos flied out to right field to plate Dienna.
The Dolphins took the lead for good with three runs on four hits
and an error in the top of the fourth inning. With two outs in the
frame, Sisto walked and classmate Brett Botsford
(Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) followed with his first
career home run. Nandin and Edmondson then registered back-to-back
singles with Nandin advancing to third on a fielding error. After
an NYIT pitching change, Haynes singled to left field to knock in
Nandin with the go-ahead run.
Le Moyne capped the game's scoring with a single run in the top of
the seventh inning. Junior center fielder Sean Paino
(Wappinger Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) doubled to right
center to open the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice.
Senior second baseman Chris Murphy (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./St.
Dominic's) then singled to knock in Paino.
Sophomore southpaw Cory Nelson (Manlius,
N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) earned his first win of the
season by tossing five and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen,
while allowing just one run on six hits and striking out five
batters. Junior lefty Luke Nellis (Fonda,
N.Y./Fonda-Fultonville) picked up his first save of the
campaign by retiring all four batters he faced, including two via
strikeout.
