Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Catcher Nate LaPointe had two hits and three runs batted in and four pitchers combined for a five-hit shutout to lead Boston College to a 4-0 win over the Le Moyne College baseball team on Sunday at Shea Field.

The Eagles scored the only runs they would need off of three hits in the second inning. Left fielder Andrew Lawrence led off with a single to right center and moved to second on a single to the left side by third baseman Anthony Melchionda. After Lawrence advanced to third on a fly out and Melchionda moved to second on a wild pitch, LaPointe doubled down the left field line to drive in Lawrence and Melchionda.

Boston College doubled its lead in the seventh on three hits. Designated hitter Marc Perdios opened the frame with a triple to center and scored on a single up the middle by LaPointe. After stealing second and taking third on a wild pitch, LaPointe scored on a single to right by shortstop Brad Zapenas.

Senior southpaw Cory Nelson (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) took the loss in his final career appearance after giving up four runs on eight hits over six innings pitched. Sophomore first baseman Kody O'Connor (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) led the Dolphins at the plate with a pair of hits. Eric Stevens earned the win for Boston College after allowing just one hit over three innings on the mound.

Le Moyne, which won games against teams from the Big XII Conference (Missouri), Big 10 Conference (Penn State) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (Boston College) this year, finishes its final season at the Division I level with a 23-30 record. The Dolphins will compete at the Division II level in the Northeast-10 Conference beginning in 2012.
