Baseball
At the center of Le Moyne’s campus is one of the finest
baseball facilities in the Northeast. The Dolphins play at Dick
Rockwell Field, named for the former coach and athletic director.
It is an enclosed diamond with spacious dugouts, a professional
press box equipped with full bathroom facilities, an electric
nine-inning Daktronics scoreboard, permanent aluminum bleachers, a
state-of-the-art sound system and a tarp for any inclement upstate
New York weather. New bullpens with turf catcher’s area and
turfed-in cages and tee areas have been added.
The field is constantly groomed by a full-time groundskeeper.
Thanks to the continued support of generous Le Moyne alumni and
friends of the program, the baseball complex has turned into one of
the finest of its kind.
“Our baseball field has improved from an above average to an
outstanding facility compared to other Northeast fields,”
head coach Steve Owens says. “We’re committed to
continuing to improve our facility. We are confident that we are
providing a great atmosphere for players and fans. Our next goal is
to build a clubhouse at the field.”
Three outdoor batting cages supplement outdoor hitting, along with
excellent indoor facilities available for training in any weather.
Le Moyne hitters can hone their craft year-round in the artificial
turf lined indoor batting cages.
The Arve S. Wikstrom Fitness Room in the College’s Recreation
Center features Nautilus and free weights, rowing machines,
exercise bicycles and Stairmasters for year-round training. The
building also houses a 25-yard swimming pool, a whirlpool, an
elevated jogging track, four racquetball courts, locker rooms, and
a large multi-purpose gymnasium which can be divided into three
courts for tennis, volleyball, basketball or other activities.
The Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex is home to 15 intercollegiate
sports teams. It includes a 2,500-seat gymnasium, team rooms,
equipment areas, athletic training facilities, and athletic
offices. The Dolphins put to use an aerobics area and indoor
hitting cages for their winter workout programs. Video equipment is
also used for individual development. Le Moyne’s Thomas J.
Niland Athletic Complex is located on campus and within walking
distance of all residence halls, classroom buildings and the dining
center.
