GOLDEY BEACOM CLAIMS D-II NORTHEAST REGION MEN'S GOLF CROWN

(WHEELING, W.VA)---Goldey Beacom led from wire to wire as the Lightning won the school's first NCAA Division II Northeast Region men's golf championship.  GBC fired the tournament's low round of 296 to pull away for a 24-shot victory over four-time defending champion Bryant and St. Thomas Aquinas. Le Moyne finished eighth.

Michael Tobiason recorded the low individual round of the tournament with a three-under par 68 on Wednesday.  His 54-hole total of 221 outdistanced Southern New Hampshire's Adam Goinsalvos by four shots.  New Haven's Brent Silano was third with a 231, Justin Jacarusso was fourth at 233.  GBC's Mark Agnew was fifth with a 234. Dan McCarthy topped Le Moyne with an eighth-place finish.

The Lightning also received top twenty finishes from Steve Cutler (238, T12th) , Justin Grossman (240, T16th). and Nick Nardo (241, T19th).  GBC will return to West Virginia May 16-19 for the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship hosted at the Resort at Glade Springs' Cobb Course.
