DOLPHINS HIT ON ALL CYLINDERS IN 88-66 VICTORY OVER RAVENS
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Jonathan Joshua connected on six three-pointers and Northeast-10 Conference Co-Player of the Week Laurence Ekperigin racked up his sixth double-double of the season for the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in an 88-66 win over Northeast-10 rival Franklin Pierce at Ted Grant Court. With the win, the Dolphins (9-8, 7-5 NE-10) avenge a Dec. 4 loss to the Ravens (5-11, 1-10 NE-10).
Both teams were solid from the field in the first half but Le Moyne cashed in on its ability to reach the foul line. The Dolphins converted 13-of-15 free throw attempts while the Ravens managed only one first-half trip to the charity stripe. Joshua scored 18 in the first half on the strength of five three-pointers. Fellow California native Mark Covin connected on both of his attempts from long range as Le Moyne shot 53.8% (7-for-13) from beyond the arc in the first half.
Joshua finished with 25 points to lead all scorers and Laurence Ekperigin picked up 19 points and 14 boards in just 24 minutes of action. Joshua, Covin and Damani Corbin dished out five assists each and the Dolphins handed out 21 dimes as a team.
Le Moyne's lead ballooned as large as 33 at the 8:32 when the Dolphins led 80-47. The team's bench contributed 29 points to the offensive cause, led by Corbin's nine points and Kevin Roth's seven points. Reserves Phil Barnes, Durett Miles and Matt Stote added three-point baskets in the second half and Mike McDonough was stellar in the low post, with three rebounds for the Dolphins.
Four Ravens reached double-figures, led by Kinard Dozier's 19 points and five three-pointers. Rimas Varanauskas scored 14, Timothy Munch tallied 12 and Steve Ramos added 11 in the loss.
Le Moyne hosts Bryant at 3 p.m. Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.
