HOLMES POURS IN 24 POINTS, BUT DOLPHINS FALL TO
UMASS-LOWELL 59-53.
LOWELL, MA - UMass-Lowell used a strong second
half to erase a six-point halftime deficit to defeat Le Moyne 59-53
at the Costello Athletic Center. With the loss, Le Moyne falls to
12-12 overall, 10-9 in the Northeast-10 Conference. UMass-Lowell
improves to 9-12, 6-10 in the NE-10.
The Dolphins jumped out to a quick 10-0 advantage to open the game.
Le Moyne would hold the River Hawks scoreless for over seven
minutes to begin the game. UMass-Lowell would break through on a
basket by Jamael Lynch. Without the services of stand-out forward
Laurence Ekperigin for most of the first 20 minutes due to foul
trouble, the Dolphins were led by senior Jason Holmes’ 13
first half points and took a 28-22 led into halftime.
UMass-Lowell turned up the defensive pressure in the second half.
River Hawks created 27 Dolphin turnovers and captured their first
lead of the game with 14:38 remaining in the game on a Dashon
Harper lay-up. Over the next seven minutes, the River Hawk lead
would grow to 12 points at 46-34 and expand to as many as 15
points. The Dolphins would make a charge in the final minutes to
trim a 12 point lead down to three with just :43 seconds to play.
Kevin Carr’s 3-pointer with :11 seconds would seal the
victory for UMass-Lowell.
Le Moyne closes out their regular season home schedule on Saturday,
February 16th as they host St. Anselm at 3:00 PM at Ted Grant Court
for Senior Day.
