HASSETT'S 27 POINTS LEADS DOLPHINS TO 64-61 WIN OVER NEW HAVEN

Syracuse, N.Y. - Junior forward Kevin Hassett (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Mountain/Iona College) scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Le Moyne College men's basketball team to a 64-61 Northeast-10 Conference victory over New Haven on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Court.

Hassett, a transfer from Division I Iona College, connected on his first seven shots, including four from three-point range, as the Dolphins jumped out to a 24-10 lead with 6:42 remaining in the first half. After New Haven scored five consecutive points to trim Le Moyne's lead to nine, the Dolphins scored 11 of the final 14 points of the half to take a 35-18 lead into the intermission. The Dolphins ended the half with three-pointers on back-to-back possessions by Hassett and freshman guard James Cormier (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull/Proctor Academy).

The Chargers jumped out on a 13-3 run over the opening 6:16 of the second half to whittle Le Moyne's lead down to seven at 38-31. Junior Cassius Chaney tallied five points, while classmate James Carr, a transfer from Division I Siena College, scored four points in the run for New Haven. Over the next six and one-half minutes of action, the two squads traded possessions as New Haven narrowed its deficit to six points, 51-45, on a layup by Chaney.

The Dolphins were able to extend their lead back to 10 points on a shot clock-beating three-pointer by junior guard Damani Corbin (Brooklyn, N.Y./Frederick Douglass) with 4:39 remaining in the contest. A three-pointer by Chaney, who scored 16 points in the second half, ignited a 12-4 run over the next four minutes to pull within a basket with 37 seconds remaining. Freshman guard Christopher Johnson (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) sank a foul shot with 13 seconds remaining to deliver the final score.

Hassett finished the contest 11-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-9 from three-point range, to record his 27 points, while also grabbing three rebounds and dishing out three assists. Johnson registered his second double-digit scoring contest of the season by tallying 10 points. Junior forward Laurence Ekperigin (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, including 10 in the first half, and scored five points. Chaney led three Chargers in double-figures with 18 points. Kelvin Jackson added 17 points, while D.J. Sackmann contributed 11.
