MBB: LE MOYNE HANGS ON AGAINST CALDWELL, 71-66
Syracuse, N.Y. - Junior Laurence Ekperigin (Cortlandt
Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) finished with a game-high 20
points, 12 rebounds and three blocks as the Le Moyne College men's
basketball team knocked off Caldwell College, 71-66, in a
non-conference game at Ted Grant Court. Carl Augustin and Manny
Perez each scored 16 for the Cougars.

sophomore Kevin Roth (Lake View, N.Y./St.
Francis) went for 12 points to join Ekperigin in double
figures. Roth's all-around performance was highlighted by seven
boards and six assists. Le Moyne's starting backcourt of junior
Damani Corbin (Brooklyn, N.Y./Frederick Douglas)
and freshman James Cormier (Trumbull,
Conn./Trumbull/Proctor Academy) combined for 17 points and
nine assists. Corbin, who entered the game ranked second in the
Northeast-10 Conference in assists, scored nine and dished out five
assists. Cormier netted eight and handed out four assists.
Roth started the game on fire, scoring eight of Le Moyne's first 10
points in the first four minutes. The teams traded the lead three
times in the first half but over the final five minutes, Le Moyne
ended on a 17-5 run. Cormier ignited the run with a three-pointer
to beat the shot clock and Corbin (7) and Ekperigin (4) combined
for 11 points for the Dolphins over the stretch.
The Cougars jumped on the Dolphins to open the second half by
scoring 13 of the first 20 points to trim their deficit to five at
the 13:43 mark. Johnson answered back with a three-pointer from the
right corner on a fast-break, one of two foul shots and a
fast-break layup to push the lead back to 11 points. Phil
Barnes (Georgetown, Cayman Islands/Clinton C. C.)
converted a layup and Kevin Hassett (Phoenix, Ariz./Desert
Mountain/Iona College) hit a mid-range jumper to open up a
game-high 14-point advantage.
After Roth hit a pair of foul shots with 8:31 remaining, Caldwell
went on an 11-0 run to cut its lead to two points with 4:17
remaining in the contest. Augustin led the Cougars in the stretch
with five points, while Michael Luzzi contributed four points.
Ekperigin hit a foul shot with 3:42 remaining in the game to end a
four minute and 49-second scoreless span. Two possessions later,
Ekperigin hit a layup and Cormier followed with a pair of free
throws to extend Le Moyne's lead back to seven points.
The Cougars trimmed their deficit to two points with 1:07 left, but
Ekperigin responded with a layup off a feed from Corbin at the
44-second mark. Following a layup by Nik Otovic, Cormier (1) and
Ekperigin (2) closed out the game with three foul shots.
Le Moyne (4-5) returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 21 at
Goldey-Beacom for a 3:30 p.m. tip-off.
