MBB: EKPERIGIN AND JOHNSON EARN NORTHEAST-10 WEEKLY
HONORS
South Easton, Mass. - Le Moyne College junior forward
Laurence Ekperigin (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter
Panas) and freshman guard Chris Johnson
(Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) have been recognized by
the Northeast-10 Conference with men's basketball weekly honors, as
announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Ekperigin, named the conference's player of the week for the second
straight week and seventh time this season, averaged 25 points,
while shooting at a 72-percent clip, 15 rebounds and six blocks per
game in leading the Dolphins to a 2-0 week in conference action.
Ekperigin, the national leader in rebounds per game (11.80), scored
30 points, grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds and blocked a school
record-tying seven shots in a 77-68 win at Saint Rose last Tuesday.
Ekperigin, who ranks fourth in the nation in field goal percentage
(69.0 %) and 14th in blocked shots per game (2.5), posted 20
points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in a 79-68 overtime victory
over Saint Anselm on Saturday. Ekperigin, who has 18 double-doubles
this season and has scored in double-figures in 19 consecutive
games, has moved up to 15th place on the College's career scoring
list with 1,276 points, eighth on the rebounding list with 772 and
third in blocks with 128.
Johnson, named the conference's freshman of the week for the second
time this season, averaged 18.5 points and three rebounds per game
in the two victories. Johnson, who leads the conference in made
three-pointers per game (3.4) and is ninth nationally, scored 16
points, while hitting four three-pointers in the 77-68 victory at
Saint Rose. In the overtime victory over Saint Anselm, he scored 21
points and tied his career high with five rebounds. Johnson, who is
second on the team in averaging 14.1 points per game, broke the
College's freshman record for three-pointers in a season with his
84th on Saturday.
Le Moyne (15-10, NE-10 11-9), winners of six straight and eight of
its last nine games, has recorded its longest win streak since
January of 2004. The Dolphins, who have moved up to sixth place in
the Northeast-10 Conference standings, return to action on
Wednesday night in Colchester, Vt. against Saint Michael's at 7:30
p.m.
