#1 LE MOYNE DEFEATS DOWLING IN SEASON OPENER 8-2.
BROOKHAVEN, NY - The Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team opened their eighth consecutive season opener victorious defeating #6 Dowling 8-2. The win extends the Dolphins' win-streak to 12 games dating back to the 2006 season. Head Coach Dan Sheehan and his club have defeated Dowling in their last three meetings. The loss drops #6 Dowling to (2-1), while improving #1 Le Moyne to (1-0).
The Dolphins Brian Cost scored his first of three goals on the day on an Alex Bily assist at the 12:11 mark of the first quarter. Dowling answered back in the second quarter tying the game even at one with 13:05 on the clock. Freshman Jack Venditti started a Dolphins 3-0 run in the second quarter with his first career goal, which put the Dolphins safety ahead 4-1.
Sophomore Doug McIver recorded 13 saves in his first career start, only allowing two goals in 60 minutes of play.
Dowling had trouble offensively only putting 20 total shots on goal. Dowling's Joe Biondolillio assisted Remond Killpack early in the fourth quarter for the Golden Lions second and final goal of the game. The Dolphins would coast through the rest of the game ending on a 4-0 run from goals by Brian Costs, Nick Gatto (2), and Mike McDonald.
Le Moyne returns to action on Sunday, March 9th as they host Mercyhurst at 1:00 PM at West Genesee High School. The Dolphins home opener will be a rematch of last year's National Championship game where Le Moyne defeated Mercyhurst 6-5 to claim their second consecutive national championship
