MCDONALD TABBED AS TEWAARATON AWARD
FINALIST
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Le Moyne College men’s lacrosse senior
Mike McDonald was nominated for the 2008 Tewaaraton Award, college
lacrosse’s highest individual honor. McDonald, who paces Le
Moyne in assists and is tied for the team-lead in points, is the
only 2008 men’s nominee from a Division II school.
McDonald was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Division II
National Championship in his only two appearances, in 2006 and
2007. With nine more points, the senior will join Le Moyne
College’s four-member 200-point club, with Jim Nee ‘99
(247), Greg Downey ‘94 (223), Ryan Spillett ‘03 (220)
and Jeff Evanchak ‘94 (209). He currently ranks third on the
school’s all-time goals list (124) and fourth on its assists
list (77).
The attack standout from Latham, N.Y. is part of a senior class
that has collected an overall record of 57-3, a Northeast-10
Conference mark of 34-2 and two Division II National Championships.
Last season, McDonald was named Division II Attackman of the Year,
First Team All-America and First Team Northeast-10 Conference.
There are only two non-Division I men’s lacrosse players on the Tewaaraton Award Foundation’s 22-player nomination list: McDonald and Kylor Berkman of Division III’s Salisbury University. The winner will be announced May 29 at a dinner reception in Washington, D.C.
