MLAX: MICHAEL CARBOINE EARNS ELITE 88 AWARD BOASTING THE HIGHEST GPA IN THIS WEEKEND’S CHAMPIONSHIPS

BALTIMORE, MD – Le Moyne College sophomore Michael Carboine (Homer, NY / Homer) claimed the inaugural Elite 88 Award in Division II men’s lacrosse announced Friday evening at the pre-championship banquet hosted by the NCAA.   Carboine is the second Le Moyne student-athlete to receive this award this year following Dan St. Jacques (Men’s Soccer) this fall.

Carboine boasts a grade point average of 3.887 majoring in Biology. On the field, he is a member of a defensive unit ranked third in the nation in goals against average (5.85). This spring, Carboine was named a Le Moyne College Scholar-Athlete.

Beginning with the 2009-10 championships season, the NCAA has instituted an academic recognition award program which is entitled the Elite 88. The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.

The Le Moyne College men’s lacrosse team will appear in their fifth consecutive national championship game on Sunday when they face C.W. Post at M&T Bank Stadium at 3:00 PM.
