MLAX: DOLPHINS WIN NE-10 OPENER AT PACE, 14-10, BEHIND HARMATUK AND
VENDITTI'S FOUR POINTS
Pleasantville, N.Y. - Sophomore attackmen Jack Harmatuk
(Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse U.)
and Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker)
scored four points apiece to lead #2-ranked Le Moyne College to a
14-10 win over Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference men's
lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.
Harmatuk led the Dolphins with three goals and an assist, while
Venditti scored twice and dished out two assists. Midfielders
Brian Welch (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) and
Tyler Sennett (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) each
tallied two goals as nine different Dolphins scored goals.
Joe Page and Joe Arlotta got the Setters on the scoreboard with
goals in the opening 4:25 of the contest. The Dolphins, who had
trailed for only 55 seconds over the opening four games of the
season, were held scoreless until the 1:05 mark of the first
quarter when Harmatuk tallied an unassisted goal.
Venditti scored just 30 seconds into the second quarter off a feed
from Welch to even the score at two apiece. Sennett registered both
his goals around an extra-man tally by Venditti over a six and
one-half minute span to give the Dolphins a 5-2 lead with just
under seven minutes remaining in the first half. Page pulled Pace
to within 5-3 at halftime with an unassisted goal at the 1:40 mark
of the second stanza.
The Dolphins used a 4-1 spurt over the opening 10:08 of the third
quarter to push out to a 9-4 advantage. Harmatuk started the run
with a goal off a pass from Venditti just 1:03 into the period.
Classmate Matt Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn),
who won four of his seven face-off attempts and picked up four
ground balls, added to the Le Moyne lead with an unassisted goal
just over six minutes later. Following a Pace goal by Kevin
Kadlick, sophomore Nick DiSarro (Niskayuna,
N.Y./Niskayuna) and senior Jack Mooney (Webster,
N.Y./Webster-Thomas) scored a minute and a half apart to
give the Dolphins a five goal lead. Freshman Mike Byrnes
(Tully, N.Y./Tully) and junior Bob McIver
(Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) recorded assists on the
goals. Joseph Clark tallied for the Setters with 2:41 remaining
before Welch ended the quarter with a goal off a pass from Venditti
with three seconds left.
Harmatuk ignited a streak of four straight goals with an unassisted
tally at the 12:21 mark of the final quarter. Byrnes scored with
9:33 remaining, while Welch scored for the sixth time this season
with 8:50 to go and senior midfielder Brooks Robinson
(Preble, N.Y./Tully/Onondaga C.C.) deposited his second
goal of the campaign with just over eight minutes remaining in the
contest. James Hammel scored three times and Jake Sheppard and T.J.
Urban each scored once over the final 7:24 to deliver the final
score.

Academy), the Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the
Week and ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, recorded four saves
between the pipes to register his 20th career victory.
