MLAX: NO. 2 LE MOYNE DROPS NO 7. BENTLEY, 11-3; SHEEHAN PICKS UP WIN NO. 150

Syracuse, N.Y. - Head coach Dan Sheehan reached the 150-win mark for his career and the No. 2 Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team rolled over No. 7 Bentley University, 11-3, in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. Sophomore Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse) netted four goals and dished out an assist for the Dolphins.

Sheehan joined a four-member group of active Division II coaches with 150 career wins. He owns a 150-32 (.824) record in 11-plus seasons on the Heights, including a 138-15 (.902) mark since 2000. Le Moyne moved to 8-0 on the season with the win and picked up its fourth win against a nationally-ranked opponent.

The Dolphins scored six unanswered goals between the 7:54 mark of the second quarter and the 13:26 mark of the fourth to turn a one-goal game into a 9-2 advantage. Le Moyne broke open the game thanks to a trio of goals from Harmatuk and one each from freshman Taylor Brooks (Cypress, Tex./Cy-Fair), sophomore Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) and senior Brian Welch (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca). Le Moyne's defensive unit entered the game as the nation's top scoring defense at five goals per game and held the Falcons scoreless for a stretch that spanned 33:18 between the second and fourth quarters. Opponents have managed seven goals against the Dolphins over the last three games.

Bentley scored a man-up goal, just the fourth surrendered by Le Moyne's defense this season, before Welch and sophomore Nick DiSarro (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) put in a pair of goals with under two minutes to play to produce the 11-3 final. Three different Dolphins, Harmatuk, Venditti and classmate Matt Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn), accounted for Le Moyne's three first-quarter goals. After the Falcons scored 1:30 into the second quarter to make it a 3-2 game, the Dolphins erupted for their crucial six-goal streak.

Le Moyne outshot Bentley, 46-23, for the game and senior Brian Griffin (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) dominated the face-off X throughout, winning 17 of the game's 18 face-offs. Senior Doug McIver (Altamont, N.Y./Albany Academy), who leads the nation with a 4.85 goals against average, finished with seven saves in goal for the Dolphins.

Le Moyne (8-0, NE-10 4-0) is back in action Monday when it takes on Northeast-10 Conference opponent Franklin Pierce.
