MLAX: #1 DOLPHINS CLINCH NE-10 FIRST ROUND BYE WITH 16-2 WIN OVER
AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
Syracuse, N.Y. - Sophomore attackman Jack Harmatuk
(Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse U.)
scored three goals and had two assists to lead #1 Le Moyne to a
16-2 win over American International in Northeast-10 Conference
men's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland
Athletic Complex.
Sophomore midfielder Matt Chadderdon (Auburn,
N.Y./Auburn) opened the scoring with an unassisted tally
at the 14:33 mark of the first quarter. Following four scoreless
minutes of action, Harmatuk recorded back-to-back goals in a
47-second span, the second of which was assisted by classmate
Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker).
Senior attackman Tim Spillett (Camillus, N.Y./West
Genesee/UAlbany) capped the first quarter's scoring with a
goal at the 6:55 mark of the period.
The Dolphins pushed their lead out to 7-0 with three goals in the
opening 3:40 of the second quarter. Venditti finished off a feed
from senior midfielder Brian Welch (Ithaca,
N.Y./Ithaca) with 13:15 remaining in the quarter. Le Moyne
then scored twice in an eight-second span. Welch tallied an
extra-man goal off a pass from senior midfielder Brooks
Robinson (Preble, N.Y./Tully/Onondaga C.C.) at 12:28 and
sophomore attackman Nick DiSarro (Niskayuna,
N.Y./Niskayuna) deposited a shot off a pass by Harmatuk
after the ensuing face-off. Welch converted his second goal of the
contest at the 5:47 mark off a pass from Spillett. American
International broke through with a goal by Nicholas Brett with 3:24
remaining to pull within 8-1 at the intermission.
Le Moyne scored four times in the opening 4:06 of the third quarter
to take a 12-1 advantage. After senior midfielder Brian
Griffin (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) won the opening
face-off of the quarter, Harmatuk scored six seconds in off a pass
from Griffin. Two minutes later, sophomore Tyler Sennett
(Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) connected off pass from
Harmatuk and Griffin put in a goal after winning the face-off.
Spillett capped the 4-0 streak with 10:54 to go after getting a
pass from Venditti. Dan MacIssac tallied AIC's second goal with
8:20 to go in the third quarter. Freshman midfielder Taylor
Brooks (Cypress, Tex./Cy-Fair) closed out the third
quarter with 2:48 remaining after finishing off a pass from junior
midfielder Steve White (Cortland,
N.Y./Cortland).
Freshman attackman Sean Connors (Camillus,
N.Y./Marcellus) scored twice midway through the final
quarter, the second of which came off a pass from junior attackman
Keith Vetter (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt)
with 5:14 remaining. Junior midfielder Bob McIver
(Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) capped the scoring in the
contest with an extra-man goal off a pass from Spillett with 3:30
left.
Senior goalkeeper Doug McIver (Altamont, N.Y./Albany
Academy), the Northeast-10 goalkeeper of the week, lowered
his nation-best goals against average to 3.97 by making two saves
in 24:33 of action between the pipes. Freshman Sebastian
Baker (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) posted two saves in 27:07,
while classmate Matt Krupka (Nedrow, N.Y./Onondaga
HS) made one save in 8:20.
Le Moyne (11-0, NE-10 7-0), which clinches a bye in the opening
round of the conference tournament with the victory, plays its
final home regular season contest of the season on Saturday against
Saint Michael's at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the game, the 12-member
senior class will be honored for their contributions to the
program.
