MLAX: DOUG MCIVER AND DREW BEZEK EARN NATIONAL AWARDS LEADING INTO SUNDAY’S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

SYRACUSE, NY – Senior net minder Doug McIver (Altamont, NY / Albany Academy) and junior defenseman Drew Bezek (Lowville, NY / Lowville) received national honors as the best player in Division II at the respective position from the USILA. McIver earned the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Award as the top goalie in the nation while Bezek was the named the William C. Schmeisser Award recipient as the nation’s top defenseman.

A two-time All-American, McIver currently stands as the nation’s lead in goals against average (3.83) and save percentage (.693). Named the Northeast-10 Conference Goalie of the Year, McIver anchors a defense that has led the nation in goals against average for the ninth consecutive season. McIver has recorded double-digit saves in five of 16 games and has held opponents to five goals or less in 15 of 16 games this season.

The nation’s top long-pole defender, Drew Bezek is a two-time All-American and NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year. A starter in all 16 games, Bezek has collected 23 ground balls and forced 18 turnovers on the season. Consistently marking the nation’s top attackman, Bezek held Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award winner Greg Cerar from C.W. Post scoreless on five shots in a meeting earlier this season.

Le Moyne will face C.W. Post once again on Sunday, May 24th at Gillette Stadium in the NCAA Division II National Championship game. Face-off is set for 3:00 PM and the game will be televised nationally on CBS College Sports Network. In an earlier meeting this season at the Carrier Dome on March, 21st, the Dolphins topped the Pioneers 6-5.
