DOLPHINS DROP BENTLEY, 2-1, BEHIND LAWLOR’S FIRST
SCORE OF SEASON
Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore Sean Lawlor (Kirkham,
Preston/Baines School) scored his first goal of the season
and senior Brandon Morse (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee)
delivered on a penalty kick as the Le Moyne College men’s
soccer team stopped visiting Bentley, 2-1, in Northeast-10
Conference action the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex on Saturday
afternoon.
Stellar defense dominated the first half of play. Both squads
failed to register a goal, though the Dolphins edged the Falcons in
the shots category, 8-4, in the first 45 minutes.
Le Moyne netted the game’s first goal with a quick strike
after the halftime intermission. Just over a minute in to the
second half, freshman Jesse Carr (Skaneateles,
N.Y./Skaneateles) crossed a ball from the right side of
the goal to Lawlor, who headed the ball to the near post for his
first goal of the season. The Dolphins pushed ahead 2-0 just over
20 minutes later when Morse converted a penalty kick opportunity
into his third goal of the campaign.
Bentley rallied in the game’s final five minutes to shave Le
Moyne’s lead to one. Chris Lipsett netted his first goal of
the season with four minutes to play in regulation. Le Moyne junior
goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland),
who made a collection of athletic saves throughout the afternoon,
put two hands on the ball before it trickled in.
White finished with four saves in the match, including a leaping
stop on a Falcons direct kick early in the second half. Michael
Nikiforov stopped five shots in goal for Bentley.
Le Moyne travels to Assumption for a 3:30 p.m. game Tuesday before
returning to host UMass-Lowell at 1 p.m. on Sept. 20. Both games
are Northeast-10 Conference affairs.
