LE MOYNE TIES UMASS LOWELL, 0-0, IN NE-10

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men’s soccer tied
UMass Lowell, 0-0, in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Thomas
J. Niland Athletic Complex on Saturday, Sept. 20.
In the opening half, the River Hawks controlled play through
most of the half. The River Hawks registered four shots in the
half, but none were on target, while the Dolphins recorded three
shots.
In the second half, Le Moyne controlled play to open the stanza
and were able to get two shots on goal in the opening 17
minutes. Sophomore Angelo Reina (Frankfurt, N.Y./Utica
Notre Dame) had a shot saved by goalkeeper Ryan Richards
at the 59:30 mark, while Richards saved a shot by freshman
Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) at
62:48. Junior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland,
N.Y./Cortland) picked up his first of three second half
saves when he turned away a UMass Lowell shot with 18:30 remaining
in regulation.
Le Moyne had its best scoring opportunity of regulation with just
over two minutes remaining on a free kick by sophomore
Domenico Vitale (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North
Syracuse), but Richards made a diving save to his left for
the save. UMass Lowell got off a shot just before time expired, but
White registered the save.
In the first overtime period, Reina had a breakaway down the right
side, but his shot slid wide left of the mouth of the goal.
The River Hawks outshot the Dolphins, 14-12, in the match and also
held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. White registered three saves
in posting his second shutout of the season, while Richards made
four saves between the pipes.
Le Moyne (4-2-2, NE-10 2-2-1), ranked #16 in the latest
NSCAA/adidas®
national rankings, return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24 against
#10 regionally-ranked Southern Connecticut State at 4 p.m.
