REINA AND CARR LEAD DOLPHINS TO 3-0 NON-CONFERENCE VICTORY OVER NYACK
Syracuse, N.Y. - Sophomore Angelo Reina (Frankfurt, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) scored two goals and freshman Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Nyack on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.
Reina, the Northeast-10 Conference co-freshman of the year last season, broke a scoreless tie with his third goal of the season at the 34:12 mark of the opening half. From the left side of the field, senior Matt Pecheone (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) fed Reina at the top of the penalty box. After side-stepping to his right, Reina put the ball into the netting by going inside the far post.
With under a minute remaining in the first half, Carr collected the ball on the end line on the right side of the field, dribbled into the goal box and beat the Nyack goalkeeper inside the near post.
Reina tallied his second goal of the contest less than four minutes into the second half. After collecting the ball around midfield, Carr slid a pass through the Nyack defense to Reina for a breakaway. After a couple dribbles, Reina chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to give the Dolphins a 3-0 lead.
Le Moyne outshot its visitors 21-9 in the contest, including 12-4 in the opening half, while also holding a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) had to record just one save for his fourth shutout of the season, while Nyack's Richmond Baah registered four saves.
Le Moyne (7-2-2), the fourth-ranked team in the latest NSCAA/adidas East Regional rankings, returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 against 13th-nationally ranked, and second regionally-ranked, Merrimack at 1:00 p.m.
