MSOC: #5 SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE TOPS #14 LE MOYNE, 3-0, IN BATTLE OF RANKED TEAMS
Manchester, N.H. - Fifth-ranked Southern New Hampshire scored three goals in a nine minute span late in the second half to defeat the 14th-ranked Le Moyne College men's soccer team, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday at Larkin Field.
The two squads, ranked first and second in the conference standings entering the day, played a scoreless first half. The Penman posted a 6-4 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes, while Le Moyne held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
SNHU got on the board at the 72:01 mark on an own goal by the
Dolphins as a failed header back to junior goalkeeper Steve
White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) sailed into the net. Less
than seven minutes later, the Penman doubled their lead when Adrian
Schippers spun around a Le Moyne defender to score off an assist
from Kevin Woods. SNHU tacked on an insurance goal just over one
minute later as Daniel Hernandez beat White with a one-timer off a
long pass from Rob Lucas.
The Penman, unbeaten in their last 11 games, registered a 16-5
advantage in shots, including 10-1 in the second half, while the
Dolphins edged the Penman in corner kicks, 5-4. White, who allowed
three goals in a contest for the first time this season, posted
four saves. Sean Lambert recorded his seventh shutout of the season
without having to record a save.
Le Moyne (9-3-2, NE-10 6-3-1), which had its six-game unbeaten
streak snapped, returns to action on Tuesday at American
International at 4:00 p.m.
