#20 LE MOYNE FALLS TO #25 DOWLING, 3-1, IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE
Brookhaven, N.Y. - Lamine Traore scored two goals to lead 25th-ranked Dowling to a 3-1 win over the 20th-ranked Le Moyne College men's soccer team in non-conference action on Saturday night at Golden Lions Field.
The Golden Lions opened the scoring in the ninth minute on a free kick. Moussa Keita tallied off the free kick into the right side of the goal from 15 yards out. At the 20:13 mark of the opening half, Dowling doubled its lead on Traore's first score of the contest. Steven Schneider crossed the ball from the left side of the field to Traore, who then put the ball into the right side of the goal from 10 yards out. Over the final 24 minutes of the half, the two squads remained scoreless to go into the intermission with Dowling leading 2-0.
Just over eight minutes into the second half, the Dolphins cut Dowling's lead in half on a goal by senior midfielder Matthew Pecheone (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford). Pecheone, the Northeast-10 Conference's leading scorer, took a cross from the left by sophomore forward Angelo Reina (Frankfurt, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) and scored into the right corner for his 11th goal of the season.
Traore added an insurance goal for Dowling with just over six and a half minutes remaining. From the left side, Keita fed Traore, who scored from five yards out into the middle of the goal.
Dowling, the fourth ranked team in the latest NSCAA/adidas East Regional Rankings, out-shot the Dolphins, 12-9, in the contest, despite Le Moyne recording an 8-6 edge in the second half. The Dolphins posted a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks, including 5-0 in the second half. Junior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), who yielded more than a single goal for just the third time this season, posted five saves in the contest, while Nemanja Veljovic stopped seven shots for the Golden Lions.
Le Moyne (12-4-2), the third ranked team in the latest NSCAA/adidas East Regional Rankings, returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 2 in the opening round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Dolphins' opponent and game time will be announced following the completion of the conference schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
