SNHU EDGES LE MOYNE 1-0 IN NORTHEAST-10 CHAMPIONSHIP
GAME
Manchester, NH – Southern New Hampshire’s senior Matt
Delaney scored on a header of a corner kick in the 19th minute of
the match to lead the Penmen over Le Moyne 1-0 in the Northeast-10
Conference championship game at Larkin Field. SNHU improves to
15-2-4 on the season, while the ‘Phins fall to 13-5-3 on the
campaign.
The Penmen jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Matt Delaney scored
off a header from a corner kick pass from Adrian Schippers and at
the 18:25 mark of the first half. For his efforts, Delaney was
named the championship’s Most Valuable Player.
The Dolphins and Penmen exchanged chances in the second half, but
both teams failed to register a goal. Sean Lambert recorded the
shutout in goal for SNHU. Le Moyne net minder Steve White
(Cortland, NY / Cortland) cleared three saves for the
Dolphins.
For the game, the Le Moyne was out shot 12-7, but held a 5-3
advantage in corner kicks.
First team all-conference midfielder Brandon Morse (Lima,
OH / Shawnee) and sophomore Sean Lawlor (Kirkham,
Preston / Baines School) were named to the NE-10
all-tournament team for their efforts in leading the Dolphins to
their third championship game appearance.
Le Moyne will now await word on a possible NCAA tournament berth
Monday evening when the NCAA holds their Division II men’s
soccer selection show on www.ncaa.com.
