LE MOYNE EARNS BERTH INTO NCAA DII MEN’S SOCCER
TOURNAMENT
SYRACUSE, NY – On the heels of a 13-5-3 record in the regular
season a Northeast-10 Conference tournament championship berth, the
Le Moyne men’s soccer team was awarded a position in the
field of 32 in the 2008 NCAA Division II men’s soccer
tournament. This marks the fourth time in program history the
Dolphins have made the national field. The ‘Phins made
previous appearances in the tournament in 1977, 2005 and 2007.
Winner of 10 of their last 13 matches, the Dolphins will take on
NE-10 foe Franklin Pierce (12-7-2) in their first round match that
is set for Friday, November 14th at 1:00 PM. In their previous
match on September 9th, Le Moyne fell in overtime to the Ravens
2-1. Both teams met in the first round of the 2007 NCAA with
Franklin Pierce topping the Dolphins en route to a national
championship.
The potent offensive attack that led the conference in goals scored
is led by senior first team all-conference midfielder
Brandon Morse (Lima, OH / Shawnee) and forward
Matthew Pecheone (New Hartford, NY / New
Hartford). Pecheone leads the Dolphins in points with 11
goals and five assists. Second and third on the team in scoring is
sophomore Angelo Reina (Frankfurt, NY / Utica Notre
Dame) with 18 points (8g, 2a) and Morse with 16 (6g, 4a).
All-freshman team honoree Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, NY /
Skaneateles) tied for the led the NE-10 with seven assist
from the midfield.
