MSOC: DOLPHINS BATTLE TO 0-0 DRAW WITH DOMINICAN IN HOME OPENER

Syracuse, N.Y. - Senior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) posted six saves, including three in overtime, to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 0-0 draw with Dominican College on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.

In the opening half, the Dolphins controlled play, but were not able to capitalize on any of their opportunities. Le Moyne posted a 5-2 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks in the half.

In the second half, Dominican was able to control possession of the ball, leading to a 10-3 advantage in shots, including a pair of goal, while also recording two corner kicks to Le Moyne's zero. However, Le Moyne was able to register the best scoring chance of the match as junior forward Angelo Reina (Frankfort, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame), the Northeast-10 player of the week, had a one-on-one shot at the goalkeeper, but Brandon Heembrock was able to kick the ball away.

In overtime, Dominican held a slight 4-3 edge in shots, including three on the goal, but White was able to turn each aside and preserve his 18th career shutout, the second-highest total in the program's history. Just over four minutes into the first overtime period, junior back Sean Lawlor (Kirkham, Preston/Baines School) had a pair of opportunities to score, but was not able to convert. Following an illegal touching of the ball by Heembrock, Lawlor's free kick hit the far left post. The ball made its way back to Lawlor, who shot from 10 yards out, but Heembrock came up with one of his four saves.

Le Moyne (1-0-1) returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 5 against No. 15 nationally-ranked Dowling, the 2008 National runner-up, at 3:00 p.m.
