MSOC: #18 DOLPHINS KNOCK OFF ASSUMPTION, 1-0, ON SECOND HALF GOAL BY DEBOTTIS

Syracuse, N.Y. - Sophomore midfielder Marcus Debottis (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) scored early in the second half to lead 18th-ranked Le Moyne College to a 1-0 win over Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.

The Dolphins controlled play throughout the opening 45 minutes of action, but could not put a tally on the scoreboard. Le Moyne out-shot the Greyhounds 10-3 in the half, while also holding a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Just over seven minutes into the second half, Debottis scored from left of the goal to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead. After a throw-in down the right sideline by Joe Viviano (North Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse), sophomore midfielder Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) crossed the ball from just inside the penalty box across the box to Debottis, who volleyed it from 10 yards out past Greyhound goalkeeper Brandan Sullivan. The Greyhounds were able to record nine shots over the final 35 minutes, but could not net the equalizer.

Le Moyne out-shot the Greyhounds in the match, 18-13, and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) made three saves between the pipes for the Dolphins, while Sullivan recorded eight saves, including five in the first half.

Le Moyne (8-1-1, NE-10 5-1), which has won five straight games and is unbeaten at home over its last 15 matches, returns to action on Saturday at St. Michael's at 12:00 p.m.
