MSOC: #16 DOLPHINS BATTLE ST. MICHAEL'S TO 0-0 DRAW AS WHITE POSTS THIRD STRAIGHT SHUT-OUT
Colchester, Vt. - Senior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) posted his third straight shut-out as 16th-ranked Le Moyne College played to a 0-0 draw against the St. Michael's Purple Knights on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer play at Duffy Field.
In the opening half, the Dolphins came out firing, with all three shot attempts coming in the first 16:21 of the game. The Purple Knights also had three scoring opportunities, with White making a save in the final two minutes of the half to go into the intermission even.
In a foul-ridden second half, both teams again posted three shot attempts, with the final save coming from St. Michael's goalkeeper Jason Burnett at the 85:38 mark off the foot of Domenico Vitale (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse). Although Le Moyne edged St. Michael's 6-5 in corner kicks, the Dolphins were unable to connect on any opportunity as regulation time would run out. After 90 minutes of equal play, Le Moyne would enter into its third overtime game of the season.
In overtime, the Purple Knights held a 3-2 advantage in scoring opportunities, holding the Dolphins to zero shots on goal in the second overtime. On the final play of the game, St. Michael's midfielder Jared Berry's shot on goal with 15 seconds left was turned down by White. White's fifth and final save of the game pushed his streak to 350:23 of action without allowing a goal.
Le Moyne (8-1-2, NE-10 5-1-1) returns to action at home on
Tuesday, Oct. 6 against conference-foe New Haven at 4:00 PM.
