MSOC: REINA SCORES TWICE AS #18 LE MOYNE BLANKS NEW HAVEN,
5-0
Syracuse, N.Y. - Junior forward Angelo Reina (Frankfort,
N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) scored two goals in the first half
to lead the 18th-ranked Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 5-0
win over New Haven on Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland
Athletic Complex.
Reina got the Dolphins on the scoreboard with his eighth goal of
the season following a New Haven turnover. Reina intercepted an
errant pass back to the goalkeeper and scored into the far left
corner of the goal from 12 yards out at the 13:16 mark. Just under
13 minutes later, sophomore back Bryce Martin (Cazenovia,
N.Y./Chittenango) doubled the Le Moyne lead with a blast
from 25 yards after a failed clear attempt by the Chargers.
Less than four minutes later, sophomore midfielder Jesse
Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) gave the Dolphins a
3-0 lead after knocking in a shot from 12 yards. Freshman
midfielder Vince Scaravillo (Syracuse,
N.Y./Westhill) crossed the ball from the left sideline to
sophomore Greg Pardo (O'Fallen, Mo./Duchesne), who
headed the ball down to Carr for the shot. Reina capped the scoring
in the stanza at the 32:18 by beating the goalkeeper in a
one-on-one situation after classmate Domenico Vitale
(Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) fed the ball up
the middle of the field.
The Dolphins controlled play throughout the second half to preserve
their fourth consecutive shutout. Freshman Cameron Green
(University Heights, Ohio/St. Ignatius) closed out the
contest by scoring with 34 seconds remaining off a feed from
classmate Tim Murphy (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill).
Junior goalkeeper Dan St. Jacques (Ottawa,
Ontario/Hillcrest), making his first appearance of the
season, posted six saves in the second half in relief of reigning
Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week Steve White
(Cortland, N.Y./Cortland). White posted one save in the
first half to run his scoreless streak to 395:27.
Le Moyne (9-1-2, NE-10 6-1-1) returns to action on Saturday against
UMass Lowell at 2:00 p.m.
