MSOC: CARR LEADS RALLY AS #18 LE MOYNE TOPS UMASS LOWELL, 2-1

Syracuse, N.Y. - Sophomore midfielder Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) dished out a pair of assists to lead the 18th-ranked Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over UMass Lowell in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.

Over the opening 45 minutes of the contest, the Dolphins held a 10-4 advantage in shots, but the two teams went into the intermission scoreless. River Hawk goalkeeper Ryan Richards turned aside three shots in the first half to keep the Dolphins off the scoreboard.

The two squads remained scoreless until midway through the second half when they scored 42 seconds apart. UMass Lowell got on the scoreboard first off the foot of junior forward Stephen Potcner. After collecting a loose ball just outside the penalty box, Potcner, the leading scorer for the River Hawks, dribbled to his left and fired a shot into the right side of the goal at the 72:29 mark. Potcner's goal snapped the scoreless streak for senior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) at 467:56.

Following the restart, the Dolphins worked the ball down the field before being awarded a corner kick on the left side of the field. Carr sent the ball towards the goal where junior midfielder Domenico Vitale (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) headed the ball from the near post over Richards into the goal.

Less than 10 minutes later, a pass from Carr led to the game-winning tally. Junior forward Angelo Reina (Frankfort, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) collected Carr's pass along the end line right of the goal and chipped a shot over Richards that landed just inside the right post for his fifth game-winning marker of the season. UMass Lowell was able to get off a pair of shots in the final six minutes, but could not score the equalizer.

White, the reigning Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, posted one save between the pipes for the Dolphins, while Richards was registered with six saves. Le Moyne out-shot its guests 20-9 and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (10-1-2, NE-10 7-1-1), which has won 10 games in a season for the eighth time in the last nine years, is unbeaten in its last eight games (7-0-1). The Dolphins return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Southern Connecticut State at 7:00 p.m.
