MSOC: #20 LE MOYNE TO HOST BENTLEY ON SUNDAY IN OPENING ROUND OF NORTHEAST-10 CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

South Easton, Mass. - The 20th-ranked Le Moyne College men's soccer team has received the second seed in the upcoming eight-team Northeast-10 Conference Championship, as announced by the conference office on Thursday.

Le Moyne (14-2-2, NE-10 10-2-1), appearing in the championship tournament for the ninth consecutive season under head coach Tom Bonus, will open quarterfinal play on Sunday, Nov. 1 at home against seventh-seeded Bentley at 1:00 p.m. The match with the Falcons marks the first time the two squads have played in the conference tournament. The Dolphins are 8-10 all-time in 11 appearances in the tournament and have advanced to the championship game three times, including twice in the last four years.

In the two teams' prior match-up this season, the Dolphins defeated the Falcons, 2-0, on Saturday, Sept. 26. Junior midfielder Domenico Vitale (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) got the Dolphins on the scoreboard in the 28th minute with his first career goal. Classmate Angelo Reina (Frankfort, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) crossed a through ball into the penalty box, where Vitale scored from 12 yards out. Reina doubled the Le Moyne lead at the 5:33 mark of the second half off a cross from sophomore back Bryce Martin (Cazenovia, N.Y./Chittenango).

Reina leads the Dolphins, and is second among the conference's scoring leaders, with 14 goals and 34 total points. Reina has at least one point in 13 of the 18 games played this season, including a season-best four points on three occasions. Sophomore midfielder Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) is second on the team in scoring with 10 points on two goals and six assists. After being held scoreless through the first nine games, Carr has scored a goal or dished out an assist in six of the last nines games. Senior goalkeeper Steve White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) ranks third in the conference with a 0.82 goals against average and has posted six shutouts, the third-highest total in the conference.

The winner of Sunday's match advances to the semifinal round against the winner of the match between sixth-seeded Assumption and third-seeded Franklin Pierce. If the Dolphins win, they will host the semifinal round on Wednesday, while the Assumption/Franklin Pierce winner would host if Bentley advances to the semifinals.
