CARR AND SPADINE LEAD DOLPHINS TO 2-0 WIN AT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE
New Haven, Conn. – Senior midfielder Jesse Carr (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles) and sophomore forward Michael Spadine (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) scored just over two minute apart to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Southern Connecticut State in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday night at Jess Dow Field.
Southern Connecticut controlled play throughout the first half, but could not get on the scoreboard. The Owls registered 11 shots over the opening 45 minutes of action, but sophomore goalkeeper Matthew Silva (Brampton, Ontario/St. Augustine) stopped all five shots he needed to save.
After the Owls took three of the first five shots in the second half, the Dolphins were able to convert on their fifth and sixth shots of the game. Carr got the Dolphins on the scoreboard at the 76:48 mark as he scored into the top right corner of the net from the top of the box for his first goal of the season.
Just 2:09 later, Spadine cut into the box and slipped a shot past Southern Connecticut goalkeeper Andrew Esposito for his sixth tally of the year.
Silva was not required to make a save in the second half and finished the contest with five saves. Esposito posted a save in each half in the setback for the Owls. Southern Connecticut recorded a 15-8 advantage in shots, while taking all four of the game's corner kicks.
Le Moyne (5-3-1, 4-1 NE-10), which fell to the Owls at home last year, 1-0, returns to action on Saturday against UMass-Lowell in a battle of teams tied for first place in the conference at 3:30 p.m.
