SWIM: DOLPHINS EDGED BY OSWEGO STATE IN HOME OPENER
Syracuse, N.Y. - Junior Jerry Dumary (Ballston Spa,
N.Y./Ballston Spa) won three individual events and
sophomore Katie O'Donnell (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem)
won two individual events, but the Le Moyne College swimming and
diving teams were edged by Oswego State on Saturday afternoon at
the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool.
O'Donnell turned in first-place finishes in the 200-yard IM in a
time of 2:14.11 and the 100-yard butterfly in 59.37 seconds.
O'Donnell teamed with Sarah Casey (Binghamton,
N.Y./Chenango Valley), Nicole Murphy (Camillus,
N.Y./West Genesee) and Kayla Ehle (Baldwinsville,
N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) to touch the wall first
in a time of 1:53.88 in the 200-yard medley relay. Junior
Sarah Salanger (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee)
picked up Le Moyne's final two individual victories. She topped the
field in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:27.24 and the 500-yard
freestyle in 5:33.60. Salanger was also a member of the winning
200-yard freestyle relay team that closed out the meet. Salanger
teamed Maggie Donovan (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego),
Mary Chidsey (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and Casey
to finish in 1:44.16.
Dumary, who totaled two victories on Friday night at Ithaca, won
the 200-yard IM in 2:06.59, the 100-yard butterfly in 56.11 seconds
and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.90. Freshman Scott
Thieke (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) registered a
pair of individual wins, touching first in the 200-yard freestyle
in 1:51.25 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:10.65. Junior
Sean Hosford (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) also
won two events. Hosford finished first in the 50-yard freestyle in
22.87 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 50.82 seconds.
Sophomore Drew Acquaviva (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem)
picked up Le Moyne's final individual win, topping the field in the
100-yard backstroke in 54.62 seconds. The Dolphins opened the meet
with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Acquaviva,
James Walker (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool),
Tim Gallivan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and
Thieke finished in four minutes to top the Lakers by one
second.
Le Moyne next hits the pool on Saturday, Oct. 31 against Cortland
State at 1:00 p.m.
