MEN'S TENNIS TOPS UNION IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION
Schenectady, N.Y. - Senior Chris Meeker (Wampsville, N.Y./Oneida) and freshman Joe Persia (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) each won their singles matches and combined for a doubles victory to lead the Le Moyne College men's tennis team to a 6-3 win over Union on Tuesday.
After falling in the first set, 6-4, Persia responded by taking the second and third sets by consecutive scores of 6-2 over Matt Goodnow at fifth singles. Meeker opened his sixth doubles match with Sam Ringel with a 6-1 win, but fell 6-2 in the second set, before winning the match with a 6-2 victory in the third set. The duo opened the afternoon with an 8-2 victory at third doubles over Goodnow and Alex Katz.
Freshman Brian Rice (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) defeated Katz by a score of 6-1, 6-1 at first singles, while classmate Dan Sullivan (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) was victorious at second singles, 6-3, 3-6, 10-5. Freshman Andy Gleason (Gorham, Maine/Cheverus) registered a 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth singles to round out Le Moyne's victories.
Le Moyne returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 against Southern New Hampshire at 10:00 a.m. for the final match of the fall season.
