WTEN: DOLPHINS CLOSE OUT FALL SCHEDULE WITH 6-3 WIN OVER NEW HAVEN
Syracuse, N.Y. - Juniors Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and Tirzah Walrath (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) were victorious in singles action and combined for a doubles win to lead the Le Moyne College women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex. The Dolphins wrap up their fall schedule with a record of 2-5, 2-4 in the NE-10 Conference.
The tandem of Cohen and Walrath defeated Kristina Bensley and Noelle Polhemus at first doubles by a score of 8-1. Walrath earned the victory at first singles over Bensley 6-1, 3-0 (retired), while Cohen topped Polhemus in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Junior Marielle Artessa (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) and freshman Caroline Tisdell (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) teamed for an 8-5 win over Leah Smith and Chelsea Annese at second doubles. At third singles, Tisdell knocked off Smith by scores of 6-0, 6-0, while Artessa defeated Annese at fourth singles in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.
New Haven's Alison Mahoney and Christine Whitluck combined for the Chargers' three wins by teaming for a win at third doubles and registering victories at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
Le Moyne returns to the court in March 2009 as they continue Northeast-10 play at Stonehill.
