WTEN: DOLPHINS OPEN SPRING SEASON WITH 8-1 LOSS AT
ROCHESTER
Rochester, N.Y. - Juniors Allison Cohen (Fayetteville,
N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and Tirzah Walrath
(Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) combined for a doubles win, but
the Le Moyne College women's tennis team fell at the University of
Rochester, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon on the Rochester campus.
The tandem of Cohen and Walrath defeated Alexandra Goodman and
Elana Polivy at first doubles by a score of 9-8 (4). Walrath fell
at first singles to Lia Weiner by scores of 7-5 and 6-4, while
Cohen lost to Goodman at second singles, 6-4, 6-3.
Rochester picked up victories in third through sixth singles in
straight sets each. Danielle Shreck topped Caroline Tisdell
(Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), 6-2,6-2 at
third singles, while Polivy defeated Brittany
Recchia at fourth singles 6-0, 6-1. Mel Beckmann earned a
6-1, 6-1 victory over Marielle Artessa (Syracuse,
N.Y./Henninger) at fifth singles and Kristen Shaw defeated
Molly Slifer (Henrietta, N.Y./Bishop Kearney),
6-2, 6-0 at sixth singles.
At second doubles, Weiner and Shreck beat Tisdell and Artessa by a
score of 8-1. The team of Beckmann and Shaw defeated Recchia and
Elizabeth Rhode (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy),
8-1, at third doubles.
Le Moyne (2-5) returns to the court on Saturday, March 21 at
Northeast-10 Conference-for Saint Anselm.
