MEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS ELMIRA COLLEGE, 8-1, FOR FIRST SPRING VICTORY

Pine Valley, N.Y. - Freshman Daniel Sullivan (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) picked up a straight victory at second singles and teamed for a win at first doubles to lead the Le Moyne College men's tennis team to an 8-1 victory over Elmira College on Sunday at the Murray Athletics Center.

Sullivan registered scores of 6-0 and 6-4 to defeat Eric Klinedinst to record Le Moyne's second victory in singles action on the afternoon. In doubles play, Sullivan teamed with classmate Brian Rice (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) to beat Klinedinst and Gabriel Cortes 8-6. Cortez picked up Elmira's lone victory on the afternoon by topping Rice, 6-1 and 6-3, at first singles.

The Dolphins swept third through six singles and also were victorious at second and third doubles. Freshman James Shelp (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) recorded a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) win at third singles over Ryan Patterson. At fourth singles, Joseph Persia (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) topped Michael Leslie 6-2, 6-0, while Cameron Smith (Conklin, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) and Chris Meeker (Wampsville, N.Y./Oneida) recorded straight set victories at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

In doubles action, Shelp and David Norton (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) defeated Patterson and Leslie by an 8-2 score at second doubles. At third doubles, Meeker and Persia teamed for an 8-2 win over Pat Moore and Matt Montgomery.

Le Moyne (3-6) returns to action on Wednesday, March 4 at Rochester Institute of Technology at 4:00 p.m.
