MTEN: DOLPHINS EDGED BY HOLY CROSS, 5-4, IN NON-CONFERENCE
ACTION
Worcester, Mass. - Holy Cross picked up victories in four of six
singles matches en route to a 5-4 win over the Le Moyne College
men's tennis team on Friday afternoon at the Holy Cross Tennis
Courts.
The Dolphins took two of three doubles matches from the Crusaders.
Freshmen Brian Rice (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) and
Daniel Sullivan (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) picked up a
9-7 victory over Matt Wierzel and Jay DeSanto at first singles.
Seniors Ben Jordan (Cassville, N.Y./Mt. Markham)
and Chris Meeker (Wampsville, N.Y./Oneida) team
for an 8-6 win at third singles over Dan Phelan and Chris Das.
In singles action, Rice and classmate Joseph Persia
(Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) earned victories for the
Dolphins. Rice topped Angelo Sica in straight sets at second
singles by a score of 6-1, 6-0. At fifth singles, Persia defeated
DeSanto by a score of 6-2, 6-0 to record his fourth straight
victory. In the most contested match of the afternoon, Phelan edged
freshman Andrew Gleason (Gorham, Maine/Cheverus)
in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 10-3.
Le Moyne (4-8) returns to action on Sunday for a Northeast-10
Conference match at Stonehill at 1:30 p.m.
