MTEN: DOLPHINS PLACE FOUR PLAYERS ON ALL-CONFERENCE
TEAMS
South Easton, Mass. – The Le Moyne College men’s tennis
team had four players named to all-conference teams for their
performance this season, as announced by the conference office on
Sunday. The Dolphins placed two players on the second team and one
player on the third team, while also earning a third team doubles
selection.
Freshman Andrew Gleason (Gorham, Maine/Cheverus)
was selected to the second team in the No. 4 singles spot. Gleason
played 13 of his 15 matches at the fourth singles, compiling a 9-4
record. He also played two matches at fifth singles, going 1-1, for
an overall record of 10-5 and an in-conference record of 7-3.
Senior Ben Jordan (Cassville, N.Y./Mt. Markham)
was named to the conference second team in the No. 6 singles spot.
Jordan, one of the team’s three seniors, played eight of his
nine matches at sixth singles and went 5-3 at the spot. In his only
match played at fifth singles, Jordan picked up a loss to finish at
5-4 on the season, but finished with a conference record of
4-2.
Freshman Joseph Persia (Spencerport,
N.Y./Spencerport) was the third Le Moyne player to garner
singles honors, being named to the third team at the No. 5 singles
spot. Persia, who tied for the team lead in matches played with 17,
owned the best record for the Dolphins at 11-6. On the season,
Persia went 9-4 at fifth singles and 2-2 at the fourth spot. Persia
finished with a conference record of 7-3.
Persia and freshman James Shelp (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford
Sutherland) teamed up to be named third team at No. 2
doubles. The tandem went 4-3 on the season, but had a 4-1 record in
the conference.
The three freshmen, Gleason, Persia and Shelp, who were named to
the second and third all-conference teams, also received all-rookie
team honors. Shelp was the team’s No. 3 singles player and
compiled an 8-9 overall record and a 6-4 in conference record. The
three combined for 29 singles wins on the season.
