WTEN: DOLPHINS CLAIM FIRST CONFERNCE VICTORY OF THE
FALL.
SYRACUSE, NY – Just four days into the fall session of the
2009-10 season, the Le Moyne women’s tennis team claimed
their first NE-10 Conference victory with a 5-4 decision over
Merrimack on Saturday. In evening their record to 1-1, the Dolphins
move to 1-0 in league play. The match was the first for the
Warriors as they drop to 0-1 on the young season.
Le Moyne was led by seniors Tirzah Walrath (Cortland, NY /
Cortland) and Marielle Artessa (Syracuse, NY /
Henninger) as they claimed singles and doubles victories.
Walrath was a winner in #1 singles in straight sets and teamed up
with fellow senior Allison Cohen (Fayetteville, NY /
Jamesville-DeWitt) for an 8-2 victory in doubles.
Artessa needed three sets to prevail, but was a 9-7 winner in
doubles along side Caroline Tisdell (Syracuse, NY /
CBA). Le Moyne’s third singles victory came from
freshman Rebecca Black (Palmyra, NY /
Palmyra-Macedon) who picked up her first career singles
victory in her first singles match.
Le Moyne returns to action on Sunday, September 13th for their
final home match of the fall before the ITA Regionals as they host
St. Michael’s at 10:00 a.m.
