DOLPHINS OPEN SEASON WITH 9-0 LOSS TO SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team opened the season with a 9-0 loss to Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Gold's Gym.

At first singles, Mitch Dobek downed senior Daniel Sullivan (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) by a score of 6-1, 6-0, while Juan Arango-Campo posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over senior James Shelp (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) at second singles. Senior Joseph Persia (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) suffered a 6-0, 6-2 at third singles to Alex Mukdaprakorn, while classmate Andrew Gleason (Gorham, Maine/Cheverus) was topped by Mike Wallace, 7-6 (7-0), 3-6, 10-4 at fourth singles. At the fifth spot, senior Ken Schiefer (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool/Onondaga C.C.) fell to Jared Wright, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8. Tim Hamilton closed out the sweep for the Penmen with a 6-2, 6-3 win over sophomore Daryl Johnson (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) at sixth singles.

In doubles play, Sullivan and Schiefer took Mukdaprakorn and Arango-Campo to the tie-breaker, but fell 9-8 (10-5) at the #1 spot. Dobek and Wallace teamed to knock off Persia and Gleason, 8-4, at second doubles, while Shelp and Johnson suffered an 8-6 loss to John Niland and Jared Wright.

Le Moyne (0-1, 0-1 NE-10) returns to action against Merrimack on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 11:00 a.m.
