DOLPHINS RECORD FIRST WIN OF THE YEAR WITH 9-0 VICTORY AT ASSUMPTION
Worcester, Mass. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team picked up its first win of the season on Friday afternoon with a 9-0 victory at Assumption in Northeast-10 Conference play.
The Dolphins opened play by sweeping the three doubles matches. Senior Ken Schiefer (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool/Onondaga C.C.) and classmate Daniel Sullivan (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) cruised to an 8-2 win over Dylan Baker and Matthew Drolet at the top doubles spot. Seniors Joseph Persia (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) and Andrew Gleason (Gorham, Maine/Cheverus) downed Richard Jakiel and Nathan LaFond, 8-6, at second doubles, while senior James Shelp (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) and sophomore Daryl Johnson (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) registered an 8-4 victory at third doubles over Joseph Esposito and Jeremiah Reilly.
At first singles, Sullivan picked up his first win of the season by defeating Baker, 6-2, 6-3, while Shelp recorded his first victory of the year, 6-1, 6-3, over Esposito. Persia and Gleason each improved to 2-2 with straight set victories. Persia topped Drolet, 6-0, 6-3, at third singles, while Gleason beat Jakiel, 7-5, 6-1, at number four singles. Schiefer registered a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Patrick Murray at the fifth spot, while Johnson shut out Reilly, 6-0, 6-0, at sixth singles.
Le Moyne (1-3, 1-3 NE-10) returns to the courts on Saturday at Pace at 11:00 a.m.
